Launch of the new website!
Four years after the inscription of the 17 Le Corbusier sites, the Permanent Conference, made up of seven Member States, has decided to launch a brand new website.
The aim ? To create a portal particularly dedicated to the international inscribed series in order to bring together all the partner sites, present Le Corbusier’s work as a World Heritage site to the widest possible public and share their own current events.
Back to this incredible UNESCO adventure !
On the 17th of July, 2016, the third application file for “The architectural work of Le Corbusier, an outstanding contribution to the Modern Movement” was submitted by France and selected by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee at its 40th Session in Istanbul. The Series no longer comprises 22 sites but now 17 works.
In addition to the recognition of the universal value of the Series as a whole, the inscription highlights the work shared by the seven States Parties (Argentina, Belgium, France, Germany, India, Japan, Switzerland) since the early 2000s and the desire to protect and enhance the various sites. Restoration campaigns, welcoming the public and international conferences aimed at exchanging views on a wide variety of themes are as many actions to ensure the survival of this heritage and to make it live each passing day.
From a factory in Saint-Dié to the urban development of the Capitole Complex, an administrative district in the heart of Chandigarh, Le Corbusier kept diversifying his orders, whether in terms of programs or even location. After having built extensively in Europe and more particularly in France and Switzerland, Le Corbusier is now conquering the international market. His contribution extends to the fourth corners of the earth: Argentina, India and even Japan, culminating his career in the 1950s.
Even today, Le Corbusier’s architectural work continues to attract and fascinate more and more visitors, eager to experience the sensitive nature of his projects. Now that some of these sites are universally recognised, the States Parties, represented by the Permanent Conference, aspire to facilitate knowledge about the history and conservation of these sites, and to promote access to them. This platform, whose vocation is to ensure the ubiquity of the series, aggregates in a single place all the contents necessary for the understanding of the inscribed works: from the origin of their commission to the long history of their inscription.
