Chapelle Notre-Dame du Haut in Ronchamp

First Sunday of every month at 3 p.m.

April 5 — May 3 — June 7 — July 5 — August 2 — September 6 — October 4 — November 1. Monday, July 27, and Monday, August 31, at 10:30 a.m.

Bourlémont Hill in Ronchamp, a modern architectural landmark, offers a unique opportunity to visit the chapel’s roof, which is usually closed to the public. This structure, which forms the iconic roof of the Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Haut designed by Le Corbusier, is accessible on the first Sunday of every month, from March through November. This tour is open to everyone: the curious, architecture enthusiasts, or casual visitors wishing to discover the monument from a unique perspective. It allows visitors to enter directly into the building’s roof and observe the raw concrete framework and the curved forms of the roof up close. Inspired, according to Le Corbusier, by a crab shell, this structure reveals the ingenuity of the project and the technical mastery of its construction. To ensure visitor safety, access is provided via a secure staircase and guardrails. Helmets and flashlights are also provided. Before entering the roof, visitors can leave their personal belongings and view exhibition materials—sketches, diagrams, and period photographs—that shed light on the various stages of construction. The tour begins in front of a model of the site, then continues with a climb up the hill to view the roof from the outside, before entering it inside. The tour provides a deeper understanding of the use of concrete and the structural elements of the chapel. This rare experience offers an immersive journey into the heart of a 20th-century architectural masterpiece, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
